Environment Matters
Your life depends upon your environment.
Your life depends upon your environment.
If the American public drove 20% less, something really big would happen.
-
Guaranteed.
A society that buys French toenails has too much money.
The US has the most overfed, overmedicated, overstimulated society in the history of humanity.
It would take five planets to support the US lifestyle for everyone in the world.
Yesterday I read about a plan to produce oil from oil shale. Ouch!
-
Be warned that oil shale is the most filthy, environmentally terrible means of obtaining oil.
We are very fortunate to have fresh, clean water.
-
Oven a billion people do not have access to fresh water.
How can you drive just 10% less?
-
Combine errands. Shop close to home. Walk or ride a bike.
Suppose you were the CEO of a major oil company and you knew that the world’s supply of oil was finite and you knew that burning fossil fuels contributed to global warming,
-
what would you do?
Right now oil companies are tearing apart everything they can to find and produce more oil.
-
But oil is a finite resource. We are at the “Tipping Point” where our ability to produce oil is being overcome by the world’s need for more oil.
-
Question: What do we do when the oil is gone?
We are cutting down trees at a greater rate than new ones take root.
-
Question: What will we do after the last tree is cut down?
Measure your achievements by their sustainability.
The planet is finite.
-
That means finite space, finite resources, finite everything.
Shop close to home.
Every two minutes spent letting your car idle is equal to driving one mile.
-
Turn off the engine as soon as you park.
